THE Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has urged consumers to take a keen interest in the type of products that will be sold on the market during this festive period to avoid being sold substandard products.

ZABS is also calling on manufacturers to uphold product quality in the midst of high demand during this period.

This is according to ZABS Marketing and Communications Officer, Nzali Chella.

“It is during this period that consumers indulge in a lot of shopping of various items such as household electrical appliances, food and beverages and other assorted commodities.

“It is also during this time that we receive complaints about substandard and counterfeit products on the market,” Ms Nzali said in a statement yesterday.

ZABS, she said, therefore asked consumers to take precaution by ensuring that products were bought from established shops where a consumer was able to get value for their money.

Ms Nzali explained that the Bureau was also reminding manufacturers to ensure their products continue to adhere to the requirements of the respective standards before they are sold on the market.

“Our offices will remain open during this period for consumers, manufacturers, regulators, importers and exporters who may need to access our services.

“Our goal is to see quality products on the market that meet the prescribed standards and ultimately meet customer expectations,” she said.
