MILLIONS of Kwacha is going to waste after the Zambian pipe line carrying Zambian’s refined diesel burst in Mbeya, Tanzania Economic and Equity Party (EEP) president Kasonde Mwenda disclosed yesterday.
According to Mr Mwenda information was to the effect that TAZAMA Pipe Line carrying the country’s refined diesel from Tanzania had burst causing a huge spillage of diesel.
“That pipe was designed for thick crude oil and Zambia does not have capacity to police the pipeline from sabotage,” he said.
And according to Emmanuel Mwamba, a grader machine from the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) working on a rural road in Mbeya Region, caused an accident and damaged the Tanzania-Zambia Mafuta (TAZAMA) Pipeline underneath carrying diesel and caused a huge and dangerous spillage.
Mr Mwamba, the Patriotic Front (PF) deputy information and publicity chairman however, said regional TAZAMA authorities have since provided emergency repairs to the pipeline and plugged the leakage.
Efforts to get a comment from Energy Minister Peter Kapala failed as his mobile phone went unanswered and did not respond to a text message sent to him.
