A PROJECT expected to spur economic development in Samfya District will soon be launched by the local authority.

Council secretary Laura Munkata confirmed the development during the ordinary council meeting held at Samfya Civic Centre recently.

The project was expected to be undertaken by the Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) in collaboration with Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) and the Ministry of Local Government (MLG)

Ms Munkata explained in a statement made available by the council’s public relations officer, Gwendolyn Mwanza Mchenga that the aim of the project was to contribute to enhanced local governance for effective, efficient and inclusive service delivery.

“LGAZ with its partners CGLF and MLG is implementing its developmental projects with financial support from European Union and United Kingdom Department for International Development,” she said
Ms Munkata also said the council was currently rehabilitating boreholes targeting three a month.

Meanwhile, council chairperson Francis Musunga said that about K 7 billion had been sourced from African Development Bank to overhaul the water system to improve the water reticulation in four districts including Samfya.
