THE first ever OYDC organised Tuelings competition attracted over 100 swimmers competing in the 2019 Swim challenge on Saturday.
The Swim challenge attracted over 100 swimmers selected from four local teams from different localities around Lusaka.

Young swimmers competed in the 25m Freestyle, 25m Back Stroke, 100m Breast Stroke, 50m Breast Stroke, 50m Butterfly and the 4x50m Freestyle relay.

And speaking in an interview with the Sun Sport, Olympic Youth Development Centre OYDC programmes officer, Mellissa Majonga, said that the Tuelings programme was meant for children development in sport.

She said that the competition attracted children of different localities aged 17 and below.
Majonga said that the OYDC was hoping to develop and nurture young talent through organised tournaments such as the Tuellings swim challenge.

“Tuellings is meant for children sports development because we are trying to produce podium athletes ,” he said.
“We are trying to give the young children a future in sports but we are not saying that sport is the only thing that can make them succeed. We also encourage them to combine it with academic success ,” she said.

Majonga described the turn out as excellent but said that she was hoping to make it even bigger in the coming tournaments.

The Tuelings tournament comprises Judo , Taekwando , Beach Volleyball and Hockey.
