Stanchart hands over two houses in Bauleni

STANDARD Chartered Bank in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Lafarge Zambia and MMI has handed over two houses in Bauleni Township to vulnerable women.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Tuesday the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Herman Kasekende said his bank believed in making a positive, lasting impact in the communities where it operated.
Mr Kasekende said United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal 11 strived to achieve viable cities and communities, ensures access to safe, affordable housing, and upgrading slum settlements.
“In handing over these houses today, we are comforted by the fact that two vulnerable women Agnes Zulu and Aulelya Nachinsambwe now have decent shelter,
“Decent housing continues to pose a huge challenge for many Zambians, with female-headed households being particularly affected,” said Mr Kasekende.
He also expressed sadness over the recent cyclone-hit neighboring countries of Mozambique and Zimbabwe which negatively impacted the people.
Mr Kasekende said that it was clear that there was an urgent need for decent shelter for people living in uninhabitable conditions.
“Earlier in March, the bank sponsored a K200, 000 Habitat for Humanity Annual Women’s Building programme to empower vulnerable women in Bauleni with decent housing,” he said.
Mr Kasekende said initiative formed part of Standard Chartered Bank’s activities to commemorate International Women’s Month which fell in March and was the first phase of 8 houses to be built this year.
