Ecobank Zambia to support war against climate change

ECOBANK Zambia will continue supporting Government’s efforts in combating climate change and protecting natural resources for future generations, says its managing director, Kola Adeleke.
Mr Adeleke reaffirmed the bank’s commitment in supporting the efforts of the Government in addressing issues that affected the community especially in health, education and environment sectors.
He said the bank had since planted 2,500 fruit trees in 50 schools across Zambia under a project dubbed ‘50-5-50 Initiative’.
The Bank planted 50 fruit trees of 5 species in each of the 50 schools comprising of lemon, orange, avocado, guava and mango.
He was speaking during the closure of the project in Chisamba recently.
“I am happy for the bank to contribute its share towards the “Plant a Million Initiative” programme which was launched by President Edgar Lungu in 2018 by planting 2,500 fruit trees in 50 schools,” Mr Adeleke said.
At the same function, Chief Chamuka VI of the Lenje people of Central Province thanked the bank for promoting and inculcating a tree planting culture in his chiefdom.
The chief challenged the pupils to each plant at least five fruit trees around their homes so that the benefits of fruit tree planting could be enjoyed by many generations.
The Chief bemoaned the effects of deforestation and urged the school to take care of the trees in order to mitigate the effects of climate change.
