INDUSTRIALIZATION is slowly becoming a reality in Zambia, says Ministry of Commerce permanent secretary Kayula Siame.
Ms Siame said already various sectors of the economy were adding value to raw materials an indication that they were appreciating industrialization.
She said innovation was also playing a role in industrialization as different sectors such as the research and development at the University of Zambia (UNZA) was coming up with new innovations.
She said industries should move from just producing raw materials to finished products.
And Ms Siame said that Zambia was in the process of ratifying the Africa Free Trade Area agreement so that she could benefit from it.
She said Zambia was getting its own experience from COMESA and SADC in terms of trade.
She further said that her Ministry was trying to see how the Zambia could have competitive advantage in Africa.
Meanwhile the permanent secretary said that her Ministry would soon start going around to see that companies complied with the ‘Buy Zambian’ campaign.
