NG’OMBE Ilede Ward councilor Sharon Palicha is the new deputy council chairperson for Chirundu Town Council.
All the 10 councilors unanimously elected Mrs. Palicha during a full council meeting.
She beat her only rival Progress Mangaba of Sikoongo Chiefdom.
Mrs. Palicha hails from Chief Chipepo’s area.
Both are United Party for National Development (UPND) councilors.
Twelve ballot papers were cast out of which Mrs. Palicha scored nine votes against Mr. Mangaba’s three.
Chirundu town council secretary John Mwanza was the presiding officer.
After being sworn in Mrs. Palicha, who is the only female councillor, thanked her fellow civic leaders for their support.
She said despite her new position nothing had changed about her because she was still a councilor with the same desire to develop the nation like them.
Council chairman Robison Sianduba thanked the former vice-chairperson, Ben Munsaka, who is Mushungu Ward councilor, for his services and handwork during his tenure of office.
Mr. Sianduba said the election exercise should not bring divisions among the councilors because it was a democratic and transparent way of choosing leaders in the nation.
He said Mrs. Palicha would hold her position until the next general elections in 2021.
