SEVEN-TIME Zambian champions, Zanaco, will this afternoon play host to South Africa’s premier soccer league defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in an international friendly to be played at Lusaka’s Sunset Stadium.

Mamelodi, who landed at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) last night at 21:00hrs will use the match to prepare for their upcoming CAF Champion League.

Zanaco general manager, Marlon Kananda, told the Sun Sport that his club would be using the game to prepare for the upcoming continental competition.

Kananda said that Mamelodi had come to Zambia with a fully-fledged squad because the status of the game was that of an international friendly.

He said the game was an opportunity for his team to rub shoulders with the giants of African football.

“Definitely we should expect a full squad for Sundowns, please take note that this is an international friendly meaning that  we are taking all the measures that come with a friendly for instance it will see few substitutes than a normal game,” he said.

He said, “For Zanaco this is an opportunity to rub shoulders with the giants in Africa, if you look at the performance it’s amazing, they have an experienced and well celebrated coach, the players themselves the way they conduct themselves we hope that as a football club we’ll learn a lot from them”. Kananda said that the match would also give Zanaco a chance to assess new players that the side had acquired during the transfer market.

Both Zanaco and Sundowns are preparing for CAF competition with Zanaco having a bye from the Caf Confederations Cup Preliminaries while Sundowns will meet AS Otoho from Congo Brazzaville in the CAF Champions League preliminaries.
