Medical doctor testifies in Chief Kazembe defilement case

A MEDICAL doctor has testified that a girl allegedly defiled by Chief Kazembe of the Chewe people of Eastern Province had her hymen broken, an indication that she had sexual intercourse in recent past.

Dr Evans Phiri told Lundazi Resident Magistrate Edward Chisanga that after he examined the victim, he discovered that her vulva was intact with no abnormalities.

He however said the girl’s hymen, a membrane covering the vagina was not intact, an indication that she had sexual intercourse in the recent past.

Dr Phiri was testifying in Lundazi Magistrates Court during the on-going trial of Chief Kazembe who is facing one charge of defilement.

Chief Kazembe, whose birth names are Vincent Banda, is alleged to have, on dates unknown but between October 1st and 31st, 2018, unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 years.

And the fifth witness, a detective sergeant, Mwandwe Chibamba from criminal investigations department, submitted to court a school register from Kazembe primary school where the victim was doing her grade seven confirming her age to be 14 years.

The matter comes up on July 9 and 22 for receiving submissions and possible ruling respectively.-ZANIS
