Councillor appeals for police post

CHONGWE’S Lwimba Ward councillor Vincent Mwachiyeya is worried about the increase in stock theft in his area and has appealed for a police post.
Mr Mwachiyeya made the appeal during a security consultative meeting held at the civic centre.
“Security is very key in our farming community. People are losing animals to cattle rustlers who steal at will because we have no police post. The people of my area rely on the animals to send their children to school, cultivate their fields and raise money for agriculture inputs,” he said.
Mr Mwachiyeya said if the security situation was not improved people would continue to suffer animal theft and lose their only source of livelihood.
Construction of a police post in the area would help to reduce crime.
“The nearest police post is far to reach and as such cases are being settled in the villages or not pursued at all,” he said.
Mr Mwachiyeya said he had written to the officer-in-charge in Chongwe in respect of the same case.
“I have written to the officer in charge to consider putting up a police post in Lwimba Ward,” he said.
Mr Mwachiyeya said the area was vast and needed a police post.
“We cannot continue being terrorised by thieves without end. We need a police post and we are appealing to the relevant authorities to come to the aid of the rural community,” he said.
