GOVERNMENT has reaffirmed its commitment to transform the country’s economy into a dynamic and prosperous middle-income economy.
Zambia’s Ambassador to Brussels, Professor Esther Nkandu said it was the Zambian government’s desire to create a diversified and resilient economy for the sustainable growth and socio economic transformation of the country in line with the UN agenda on sustainable development goals and the AU agenda 2063.
This is contained in a statement issued by first secretary for press and public relations at the Zambian Embassy in Brussels, Phyllis Chilekwa.
Ms Nkandu was speaking during her official presentation to the committee of ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of states at the ACP Secretariat in Brussels.
She said government had made tremendous strides towards achieving the objectives as seen by the many developmental projects currently been undertaken in all parts of the country.
She said Zambia also aligns itself with the African Caribbean and Pacific – ACP group of State policy framework guide to post 2020 whose focus is on industrialization, development cooperation and political dialogue.
“My country emphasizes its support of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063 both of which are people focused, to deliver a better future for all. In this regard, the Zambian government has aligned our country’s development blue print to the mentioned global and continental agendas on sustainable development.
“The ACP policy framework document “Towards the ACP We Want” also speaks brilliantly to achieving this by strategically focusing our work on the three pillars adopted to guide the Group’s work post 2020 which include; Trade, investment, industrialization and services; Development cooperation, technology, science and innovation/research; and Political dialogue and advocacy,” Ms Nkandu said.
With the above approach, she said, it is my belief that if we remain steadfast, unified and committed we shall indeed achieve the social economic transformation and sustainable development that we desire for our people.
And African Caribbean and Pacific – ACP group of states Secretary General Dr Patrick Gomez has applauded Zambia’s support and commitment towards the organisation.
Dr Gomes said his organisation remained indebted to the Zambian government for their successful hosting of the International Conference on Artisanal and Small-Scale mining in September 2018 which is an initiative of the ACP in collaboration with the European Union.
