A ZAMBIAN freestyle football athlete has appealed to government and the corporate world for financial support to enable him travel to Nigeria for the international tournament slated for September 12.

Cecil Chila who was Zambia’s sole participant at the recently held beach games world competition in Cape Verde last week, said he needed the money to participate in the championship.

He told the Sun Sport he looked to the corporate world and government to help him foot the bill to his next championship in Nigeria.

The free style  athlete who has been playing  the sport since 2012 participated  at the Sal 2019 Beach Games were he was eliminated in the quarterfinals of freestyle football by eventual gold medalist Barros Nicholas of Cape Verde.

Chila said he had been sponsoring himself in the previous tournaments and that was now looking to getting sponsors from other well-wishers.

He said he has since written to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) seeking their help.

Chila said that if it would not be possible to get any sponsorship, he would be happy to get a return ticket to the games for him to go and learn something even from the terraces.

“I’m talking to NOC if they can sponsor me, but if I won’t be sponsored, then I will need other companies to help me with the return air ticket to travel to Nigeria,

Chila however said that he was disappointed from his experience at the Cape Verde tournament but would instead work on his mistakes in preparation for his next tournament.

He attributed his loss to the eventual winner to lack of self-confidence, saying he would work on that aspect in his next games in Nigeria.

“In the next tournament I just want to be confident and train hard so that I can do better than what I did last weekend in Cape Verde,’’ he said.
