DMMU releases relief food

THE Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has released 200 metric tonnes of relief to Lunga district of Luapula province.
The unit has also released 200 metric tonnes of relief food to Ngabwe district of Central Province and Lavushimanda in Muchinga province respectively.
This is contained in a statement released to the Sun by DMMU communications officer Racheal Chama.
DMMU national coordinator Chanda Kabwe has since directed the DMMU regional coordinator and the district commissioners for Lunga and Samfya to quickly ensure the donated relief food were transported to the districts.
Mr Chanda further urged the DCs to monitor the situation and recommend if need be for additional interventions.
Mr Kabwe said in addition to the 200 metric tonnes, the unit has also released palsies (beans and other legumes) to cushion the situation.
He said K50, 000 was released for transportation and other logistics.
“DMMU has further released 100 metric tonnes of relief to Ngabwe district of Central province and another 100 metric tonnes to Lavushimanda in Muchinga province,” Mr Kabwe said.
Mr Kabwe assured the nation that DMMU was on course to respond to all districts in need of relief assistance.
