BUSINESS REPORTER writes

THE authorities in North Western province are impressed with the timely delivery of farming inputs by Nyimba Investment, saying the move is worth replicating.

Provincial permanent secretary Willes Manjimela said this over the weekend when company officials led by Head of Sales and Marketing Willings Mulendema paid a courtesy call on him.

The government has not yet awarded contracts for the supply of fertilizer but Nyimba has started restocking its storage warehouses with the commodity.

“As provincial leadership we are pleased of what you are doing. Last year you committed to bring fertiliser on time and you have done it. It is also good that you have made these farming inputs available for the community to buy. These farming inputs are open to the community …….farmers can buy,” said Mr Manjimela.

He said that with the good climatic conditions prevailing in the province, it was important that agro dealers delivered the inputs on time so that the yield could be impressive.

Mr Manjimela however advised the farmers that once the produce is harvested, they should ensure that they only sell to genuine and credible buyers.

“My advice to our farmers is that the maize which they are going to harvest should be sold genuine dealers . They should not sell maize anyhow but to geneuine buyers at a reasonable price,” he said.

And Mr Mulendema said that  Nyimba was targeting to position 15,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser in its storage warehouses north western  province.

“As Nyimba Investment  we promised the Zambian farmer and the nation  that again  we will deliver inputs  before the beginning of this 2019 to 2020 farming season and we have indeed done it,” said Mr Mulendema

He said Nyimba has procured 150,000 metric tonnes of the commodity of which 46,000 metric tonnes were  already in the county.

“ We have planned to complete the movement of this full procured tonnage of 150,000 metric tonnes before the season begins in order to serve our farmers in time  and contribute to the nation’s  maize production. What you are seeing here in Solwezi is positioning of inputs from the 46,000 metric tonnes that we already  have in the country,” said Mr Mulendema.

Mr Mulendema also said that Nyimba would be buying maize from the farmers in the province as it was already started in other parts of the Eastern province.
