Judicial officers jailed 4 years for corruption

PETAUKE Magistrates Court senior public prosecutor and an interpreter have been sent to prison for four years for corruption
The two Nyambe Mutwamo a, 42 years and Pitman Banda, 37, were yesterday sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labour.
According to Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Corporate affairs Christopher Chibanku, the two officials in July 2018 were jointly arrested and charged with one count of Corrupt Practices.
Mr Chibanku in a statement said two were found guilty of corruptly solicitation and receiving of K10, 000 cash gratification as an inducement for them to facilitate the release of a vehicle which was impounded by ACC.
“Lusaka Resident Magistrate honourable Nthandose Chabala sitting in Petauke found Pitman Banda, a court interpreter, and Nyambe Mutwamo, a senior public prosecutor at National Prosecution Authority guilty of one count each of corrupt practices contrary to the Anti-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012”.
Particulars are that Banda of Garden Compound, in Petauke on unknown dates but between 1st January 2017 and 30th April 2017, while acting with other unknown people corruptly solicited and received K10,000.00 cash gratification as an inducement to facilitate the release of a Volvo truck registration number ACZ 8394 belonging to Aaron Chizwa that was impounded by DEC.
Further, Mutwamo 42, on unknown dates but between January 1, 2017 and 30th April, 2018 abetted Banda in the commission of the same offence.
