Motor cyclist knocks young girl to death

A CHAVUMA man in North-Western Province has been dragged to court for knocking down a four year old girl to death in a fatal road traffic accident.


The accident happened on April 24 around 18:00 hours on Cheyeke-Sewe Road near Sakenga village, Sewe area in chief Ndungu’s chiefdom.


Provincial commissioner of Police Mr Hudson Namachila, identified the rider as Kenneth Muke of Mutondo village in Kakhoma area and the dead juvenile as Vera Kambinda.


“Zambia Police service in the district did receive a report from the known rider that as he was riding his motor cycle, a Dayun by make yellow in colour and is unregistered from Sewe in the western direction to Kaoma, he hit a girl upon reaching the aforementioned area,” he said.


The commissioner said after being hit the child sustained a deep cut on right side of the head, swollen head and was bleeding from the nose.
Mr Namachila said the girl was rushed to Chavuma Mission Hospital where she later died around 20:40 hrs.
“The rider escaped the accident unhurt and has since been detained at Chavuma police station,” he said.
