ZB UNVEILS MAIZE-BASED EAGLE LAGER

ZAMBIAN Breweries Plc has launched maize-based Eagle lager which will provide farmers a readily market for their grain.
The new beer cements the brewer’s position as one of the largest agricultural commodity buyers in Zambia, supporting local farmers by buying maize as one of its key ingredients.
Speaking during the official launch on Eagle maize in Ndola recently, Zambian Breweries country director Jose Moran said the product was the home-grown taste that supported local farmers.
Zambian Breweries will produce Eagle Maize lager – which still contains cassava, but with the addition of maize – from its Ndola plant in the Copperbelt.
Mr Moran said he was pleased that the product was adding value to local farmers’ crops while providing consumers with the great rich taste of Eagle Maize.
“Eagle Maize is a variation of Eagle lager produced from maize. Eagle Maize is here to complement our efforts with Eagle made from cassava as we continue to give our consumers the rich taste from locally sourced ingredients,” he said.
At the same function, Copperbelt Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe said the introduction of Eagle Maize spoke to the value addition initiative that Government had been promulgating through the Seventh National Development Plan.
Mr Mwakalombe commend Zambian Breweries for its investment programme and for working with farmers.
“We are delighted to witness the introduction of another clear beer brand that is focused on developing our agriculture sector. Maize and cassava are the key ingredients of the Eagle brand.
“As government we are very happy to work with investors and organisations that are bringing infrastructure and economic development in the country,” Mr Mwakalombe.
