Plastic bag traders unhappy with ban

PLASTIC bag traders have complained that Government’s decision to ban the use of plasticbags will leave them out of business.
Dominic Banda, a plastic trader in Soweto market said yesterday in an interview that he depended on the selling plastic bag carriers for his livelihood and the ban would mean hard life for him.
Mr Banda lamented that the move would effectively leave him with no source of income to support his family.
“Our business is slow even though we are insulted by people who think we are thieves. We don’t know how to steal so we survive through this business,
“So when they stop us from selling these plastic bags which are on demand, we will suffer and people will also suffer because they will have challenges in carry their parcels,” he said.
Mr Banda however said he would continue to hustle and find something else to do. “But we will continue to hustle and look for piece work once the ban is effected. What we do not want to do is to steal from people. My K27,350 was lost in the infernal at City Market so I had to start from the beginning,”Mr Banda said.
Government is set to stop the use of plastic bags by February 1.
