TRADERS from Matero market in Lusaka have appealed to Government to provide them with a proper trading space.

Maureen Chembe, one of the traders spoken to told the Sun Newspaper in an interview that the current trading space was in a dilapidated situation and needed urgent attention.

Mrs Chembe also said the market was not big enough to accommodate the number of traders who wanted to trade from there.

“I have been trading from this market and business is very slow. People here do not take our businesses seriously because of the way the market looks. Some traders have even resorted to selling their goods from their homes as there is business there,” she said.

Another trader, Amos Lungu, indicated that the traders would have improved business once the market was expanded and rehabilitated.

Mr Lungu said some of the trading space had been vandalised, forcing owners to vacate the area.

“We struggle during the rain season, like you have seen for yourself, most stands which are in here leak once it rains ad this forces traders to flee the market.

“So once the market is worked on, it will attract traders again and business will be booming in here. People will take us seriously and they will come to buy our merchandise,” he said.
