Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has announced the immediate allocation of close to $3.4m (£2.8m) for reconstruction in the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy. The cyclone made landfall over the weekend for the second time in a month and the country has received more than a year’s worth of rainfall in the past four weeks.

BUSINESS tycoon James Ndambo’s family have refuted media reports suggesting that the Zambian government had prevented his company from running the Kasumbalesa border post. Media allegations have accused Mr. Ndambo of making illicit profits at the said border post .

The words used by President Hakainde Hichilema on his predecessor, Mr Edgar Lungu, were uncouth and seriously lacked civility for a President, Socialist Party president, Dr Fred M’membe, has said. 

The UPND has suspended Mongu mayor, Nyambe Mayumbana for gross misconduct. Mr Mayumbana was suspended after being involved in a fight with a councillor, said UPND deputy secretary general Gertrude Imenda in an interview.

GOVERNMENT says Zambia is likely to undergo serious economic transformation and industrialisation that has potential to exert pressure on its environment in the in the next few decades. The government is therefore calling on institutions mandated to ensure there is environmental sustainability and pollution control delivered on their mandate.

Kasempa Town Council has with immediate effect stopped the construction of a copper smelting plant in Nselauke for breaching laid down procedures. The Council Secretary, Everty Ng’andu has announced the halting of the construction of the Copper smelter because the construction had not been approved and sanctioned by the local authority.
