President Hakainde Hichilema should fire Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo Phiri for failing to handle the 2022 farming season which is a disaster, Forum for Democratic Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has said.

Ms Nawakwi said the minister had messed up the food production of the country because the rainy season had started without farmers receiving farming inputs yet.

She said President Hichilema needed to act now because the minister was messing him up by creating a picture that he was not performing.

Ms Nawakwi said that the new dawn administration was busy auditing what the former Patriotic Front government was doing instead of getting to work. She said the new dawn administration indicated that they would not be efficient because they were using the PF budget and that they needed to carry out audits.

“It’s clear that this government is one of auditors which is still conducting audits even when the rains have started,” she said.

Ms Nawakwi said she had advised the President that Mr Mtolo could not run the Ministry of Agriculture which was very important.

She said the ministry was very cardinal and needed someone who was hands on and not what was going as it was a mess.

Ms Nawakwi said President Hichilema needed to be serious because if they messed up the agriculture sector, it would be a ticket to their exit.

She said the government was standing in the prosperity of Zambians as they were being hindered in food production.

Ms Nawakwi said President Hichilema needed to ask the Tanzanian president who had flourished in empowering farmers in her country.
