Labour Dept lifts suspension of Mansa’s Henry court yard Lodge

THE Labour Department in Mansa in Luapula Province has lifted the suspension of operations at Dr. Chitalu Chilufya ‘ Henry Court Yard Lodge in Mansa which was effected on 30 November 2021 at 10:O0hrs.

According to a letter dated 29th November, 2021 by the Labour department, the decision to lift the suspension was made after Management at Henry Court Yard Lodge managed yesterday to pay 85 percent of the money it owes its workers in form of salaries and redundancies.

The letter further observed that the company had also made a commitment to dismantle the remaining balance within the shortest possible time.

“Acting on behalf of Labour Commission, l therefore lift the suspension of operations at Henry Courtyard Lodge effective from 30th.November, 2021 at 17:00hrs,” read the letter in part.

On Monday this week, the Labour Department in Luapula Province had threatened to suspended operations at Dr. Chitalu Chilufya’s Lodge in Mansa effect from 30th November 2021 at 10:00 hours if management fail to address the issue of non-payment of worker’s salaries.

The threat to suspend the operations followed complaints by Henry Court Yard Lodge workers in Mansa to the Labour office.

The workers had reported their employer who is also Patriotic Front (PF) Mansa Central Member of Parliament to the Labour department for non-payment of salaries and redundancy benefits.

According to the letter addressed to the Director at Henry Courtyard lodge in Mansa, the company had contravened section 55 (non – payment of redundancy benefits) and section 66 (non- payment of wages of the employment code act number 3 of 2019.
