$49,000 COUNTERFEIT NOTE LAND MAN IN TROUBLE

A LUSAKA man has been dragged to court on allegations of having possession of US$49,900   counterfeit notes.

Appearing at the Lusaka magistrate’s court before magistrate Chinunda Chiwaula was Bobby Chumbakasa, aged 29, an agro businessman of Chelstone township.

Particulars of the offence were that Chumbakasa on February 25 this year had US$49, 900   counterfeit notes without lawful authority.

Magistrate: Were you found with $ 49, 900   counterfeit notes?

Chumbakasa: I admit the charge. I had in my possession $ 49, 900 counterfeit notes.

Magistrate: Did you know that the notes were counterfeit?

Chumbakasa: I did not know they were fake but I accept having possession of the notes.  I came to know they were fake when I was apprehended.

Magistrate Chiwaula entered a plea of not guilty as Chumbakasa did not know the notes in his possession were fake. Magistrate Chiwaula told Chumbakasa that witnesses will be called and he should prepare himself for trial at the next sitting. The court adjourned the matter for trial and he was remanded in custody.
