Kazungula toddler dies in inferno

A three-year-old boy has died while his father and a girl are nursing burns after a chicken run they were in caught fire on Wednesday afternoon in Kazungula district.

Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer, Esther Katongo, confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in Livingstone.

Ms Katongo said that the incident happened around 15:00 hours on Wednesday.

She said the deceased has been identified as KanyaniKalufwa while the survivors are Tryford Kalufwa aged 45 of Mutombo Village, Chief Mukuni and one-year-old Rebecca Kalufwa.

Ms Katongo said that the toddler got burnt as they were seated next to the chicken run while their father suffered burns in the process of rescuing his children from the inferno.

“The circumstances in which the chicken run caught fire is not yet established. The surviving victims were rushed to Katapazi Clinic for medical attention,” she said.
