NATAAZ FESTIVAL SET FOR OCTOBER

The National Theatre and Arts Association (NATAAZ)I Festival will this year take place at the Lusaka Playhouse on the 3rd-5th October.

According to a statement from NATAAZ national chairperson Boyd CHIBALE, the association is therefore calling for artistes to submit their productions.

“Groups are advised to submit productions they are entering into the festival to the NATAAZ DPR three weeks before the festival to allow for adequate time for adjudicators to study the scripts.

Kindly note that groups can enter up to 3 productions in the festival. This, however is under the specific conditions,” stated Chibale.

The set conditions state that each production entered must have participation fee paid for and that no same actors/actresses should feature in each production. The other condition is that participating actors/actresses should be paid up members of NATAAZ.

“Authors of scripts being entered in the festival should indicate directly to ZAWA if they wish to have their scripts adjudicated for the Best Script Ngoma Award. NATAAZ will not be responsible for the conveyance of this particular award. The 2019 National Theatre Awards Night will be held on Friday, 1st November. 4 nominations will be forwarded to the Ngoma Awards.,” the statement read.

The four to be submitted for the Ngoma include, ‘The Manda Mwila Award for the Most Outstanding Stage Theatre Production, the Joemwa Mtsinje Mwale Award for the Most Outstanding Stage Theatre Director, the Kwaleyela Ikafa Award for the Most Outstanding Stage Theatre Actor and the Laiza Phiri Award for the Most Outstanding Stage Theatre Actress Award.

“Further, be reminded that the triennial conference will be held on the 5th October just before the announcement of the awards nominations. The conference will be elective. The new executive committee will officially take over on 16th November. The period between 5th October and 16th Novmeber will be for completion of all pending transactions, report writing and smooth handover to the new executive committee,” stated Chibale.
