National Archives modernized

MAJOR strides have been made in modernizing the National Archives of Zambia, Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo, has said.
Mr Kampyongo said Government was committed to enhancing security and accessibility of records at the department.
The Minister said this when giving a ministerial statement on the official opening of the Vice President’s Exhibition in Parliament yesterday.
And Mr Kampyongo encouraged Zambians to use the National Archives as a reference for study and research.
Mr Kampyongo said at the request of the department, Vice President Inonge Wina agreed to be profiled and showcased at the National Archives.
“The National Archives has been holding an exhibition from June 26, 2019 of the first ever first female Vice President Inonge Wina. It showcases her early life, family and political life,” Mr Kampyongo said.
The exhibition will go on up to December 21, 2019 and Mr Kampyongo has encouraged Zambians to visit the National Archives and learn about the life of Mrs Wina.
Mr Kampyongo also advised people who have written books to depose them at the National Archives for future reference.
Kanchibiya Member of Parliament Martin Malama asked if Government has intentions to make Mrs Wina a symbol of success to the girl children having been raised in a village.
The Minister said plans were under way to modernise the National Archives and preserve of the material that dates back to the 1950’s on e-platforms.
“We have profiled Mrs Wina while she is alive. This is an eye opener because she can correct what is not clear. Usually we profile people when they are dead thereby having no chance to document proper history,” Mr Kampyongo said.
