Stadium fall kills one …as two workers are seriously injured

ONE person has died while two others sustained injuries after part of Lusaka’s Woodlands Stadium suddenly collapsed on Friday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Ester Katongo confirmed the development saying part of the sports facility collapsed while a company contracted was trying to demolish walls to pave way for construction of an extra shop.

Ms Katongo said that in the process of the demolition, part of the building collapsed thereby injuring its three workers, two of them were taken to nearby Chilenje Level One hospital while the other one who was seriously injured was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

She named the injured victims as Aaron Moonga and Enock Sakala while Codrine Shamayoba was pronounced dead on arrival at UTH.

“The information at hand is that a construction company called Liege Africa contracted three people who are now victims to demolish the old walls where they intended to build Hungry Lion outlet,

“But in the process part of it collapsed injuring  then three people two of whom were taken to Chilenje Level One hospital the other one Codrine Shamayoba was rushed to UTH but was pronounced dead on arrival,” she said

One of the eye witnesses who spoke on the condition of anonymity and whose shop was close to the collapsed wall said she just heard a noise outside and when she went out she saw a man lying trapped in a pool of blood in the rubble with his intestines out.
