ZAMBIA Under-20 women national team has made tremendous progress ahead of the inaugural COSAFA Women championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, says Coach Charles Haluboono.

Haluboono said the putting together of an Under-20 side would help gradual progress for all national teams in all age groups.

“We are progressing very well with the support we are receiving from FAZ. The team has been brought together in the shortest possible time but have enough time to work on the players,” he said.

“It is important to have an Under-20 team because we are progressing in terms of ages from the Under-17 who would progress to progress to Under-20 and then Under-23 for form the senior team.”

Haluboono said with all the age groups in place it would be easier to build national teams across all age groups.

“We had skipped Under-20 which was automatically affecting the Under-23 and the senior team. This has really helped to make gradual development of our teams,” said Haluboono.

The inaugural COSAFA Women’s Under-20 Championship will be staged in Nelson Mandela Bay from August 1-11 and features eight teams all vying to be the first to lift the trophy and write their names into the history books.
