FORMER Sensational Zanaco captain Ziyo Tembo could make a return to Sunset Stadium for a second spell in the 2019/20 FAZ/MTN Super League season.
According to the club media office, general manager Marlon Kananda said the defender was one of the options his team was looking at to correct their defensive lapses.
Kananda said his team had been in talks with its former captain and had reached a consensus awaiting clearance from his Saudi Arabia team.
“Yes, we’re in talks with Ziyo and we have agreed on personal terms. We’re just waiting for a clearance letter from his team in Saudi Arabia,” he said.
After making himself one of Zanaco’s greatest players in his first spell at the club, Ziyo may make a return to Sunset, which he calls home, for one season.
The 34-year-old defender’s one-year contract with Saudi Arabian second division side Al Shoula FC ended in June, opening the possibility of his return.
Ziyo is regarded one of the greatest players in the ranks of Zanaco.
He graduated from Young Zanaco to make his senior team debut for the club in the 3-1 away win over Nkana on November 19, 2008.
Ziyo came in as a substitute for Eugen Shamakamba then.
He spent the first 11 seasons of his career in the Zambian Super League with the club winning three Zambian Super League titles (2009, 2012, 2016) and one Barclays Cup (2017).
Zanaco exhibited defensive frailties in the just-ended transitional league, which saw the team conceding at least a goal in most of the games they played.
Both coach Numba Mumamba and Kananda acknowledged the team’s defensive lapses saying the side would look to adding some defenders.
