THE Ministry of Health in Mazabuka is happy with the overwhelming response of the just ended Human Papilloma Virus vaccination across the country.

District health director Stephen Shajanika said that it was pleasing to note that parents had shown interest to encourage their children to go for the vaccination.

Dr Shajanika said it was also encouraging to note that parents had taken their children’s health seriously.

“It is good to note that parents were in the fore front encouraging their girl-children to go for the HPV vaccinations. We commend the act and every parent that supported the programme that will promote proper health care for the citizens,” he said.

He said 1,500 people were living with cancer in the district.

And health promotion officer Noah Kafuko said over 1,600 women had been screened for cervical cancer since the establishment of the screening centre in the district.

Mr Kafuko said 97 women tested positive for cancer out of the 1, 658 that have been screened in Mazabuka district.

The Ministry of Health last month launched the Human Papilloma Virus vaccinations that were aimed at preventing the spread of cervical cancer in the district.

The exercise that was targeted at girls aged 14 years in schools and health facilities ran from June 25 to June 29 2019.
