WOMEN athletes should join the body building sport and compete in Zambia Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ZBBFF) newly introduced female category, says its general secretary Chimuka Muntanga.

Muntanga said ZBBFF had introduced the female category to all competitions under its watch.

He told Sun Sport that women had for a long time being part of various gyms in Zambia and it was only was prudent for his association to incorporate them in all its competitions.

He said the female body building competition was not all about muscles but mainly about controlling body fat and fitness.

He said the pilot female competition was incorporated during the recently held ‘Mr Iron Man Zambia’ in Livingstone which saw Michelo Sibalwa being crown the ‘Miss Iron Lady’.

Mutanga said that being the only female contestant, Nchanga’s Sibalwa was given the crown to encourage other female athletes join the sport.

“For the first time in the history of this competition, we included the female category which we call ‘Miss Iron Lady’ which only had one participant from Nchanga Gym, Michelo Sibalwa,’’ he said.

Since she was the only participant, we had to crown her with the title to encourage other female athletes to join the sport.

And Sibalwa said it was encouraging that ZBBFF had introduced the female category in its next competitions “Mr. Lusaka’ and ‘Mr. Zambia’ slated for December.
