THE cash-strapped Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) has made a passionate appeal to the corporate world and other well-wishers to help it raise K357, 000 to send its Under-17 team to Guinea in July for the International Handball Federation (IHF) championship.

HAZ president Bwalya Banda said that his association had come up with a budget of K357, 000 for its Guinea assignment.

Speaking when he showed Madison General Insurance, medals was at the just-ended handball tournament held at OYDC, Banda said IHF had had already given his team accommodation vouchers and what all was needed was money to buy air tickets.

He said his association was appealing to the corporate world and other well-wishers to buy air tickets for its 23 players.

He further said that HAZ was grateful for the support it had been so far receiving from Madison General Insurance towards the dressing of his teams with sports kit.

“We are grateful to Madison for providing us with sports kits for all our teams and other financial support,” he said.

The support that the company had continued to render to HAZ had resulted in handball teams producing medals such as those at the just ended regional tournament it hosted at OYDC.

“We are appealing to more corporate sponsors to come on board so that they may help us with tickets even just for 10 of our players,” said Banda

Banda said that each ticket for the round trip cost about K15, 000.

And Madison General Insurance, managing director Chabala Lumbwe said that his company would stretch its budget towards supporting the handball team.

The IHF handball tournament will start on July 23 -29 in Guinea and Zambia’s participants are the Under-17 team which emerged victorious at the Lusaka regional tournament.
