Mbombo up for grabs?…as Congolese strike is reported to make a surprise return to Zambia from Sudan

FORMER Nkana striker Idriss Mbombo could make a surprise return to the Zambian league from Al Hilal of Sudan.

Mbombo signed with the Sudanese giants in 2018 just after the league had concluded in November, eventually missing out on Nkana’s Barclays Cup triumph against Young Buffaloes.

The Congo-born striker represented Al Hillal in the Confederations Cup were they were they went as far as the quarter final stage.

According to reports, Al Hilal was currently having some financial challenges and would let go some of their star players during this year’s transfer window.

This development could have prompted Mbombo’s planned return to the Zambian league where he finished top scorer in 2018 while playing for Nkana .

Among teams chasing for his signature is Buildcon who have already approached player with of the view to signing him.

The Ndola-based club would have to wean off competition from Mbombo’s former team Nkana who could also be looking to lure the player back to Kitwe.

Nkana are searching for replacement of their star striker Walter Bwalya who has now attracted interest from Tanzania’s soccer giants Simba FC .

ABSA Cup champions Zesco could be another possible suitor for Mbombo who once played the club in the 2016 before leaving for Saudi Arabia.

Zesco could also be looking for replacement of striker Lazarous Kambole who will be joining South African side Kaizer Chiefs on July 1.

Mbombo first burst onto the Zambian scene in 2014 while on the books of Kabwe Warriors were he scored 25 goals for the side thereby emerging top scorer in division one.

Among the clubs that he has played for in Zambia are Warriors , Zesco and Nkana.
