Copperbelt amateur soccer teams land financial support

A KITWE-BASED football administrator has initiated a soccer tournament aimed at raising funds to help Copperbelt soccer amateur teams.

Former Mining Rangers Football club chief executive officer Sydney Chalawila last Sunday organized a fund-raising soccer tournament played at the Lechwe school grounds.

Chilawila told the Sun sport that the tournament was aimed raising money for grassroots schools in Kitwe and some surrounding towns on the Copperbelt.

He said the soccer event which had a participation fee attracted some Kitwe-based Super league players and was graced by district commissioner Binwell Mpundu.

Some of the notable players that took part in the tournament included Larry Bwalya, Chrispin Sakulanda, Linos makwaza jnr, kelvin mubanga, Indian based and former Zanaco defender Aaron Katebe, and Mathew Maleka.

And also among notable spectators was Nkana duo Harrison Chisala and Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ kampamba.

The games also attracted lower division players in Motela Mulambya Muma Bwalya, Mbita Chalwe Portipher Nyirenda, who were also part of the teams participating.

Chiwaila said that a madalas team led by Mpundu, sponsors directors , former Mining Rangers  owners Hussien and Kassem  Siblini also took part in the event.

He said other teams at the event included Gomez FC, Cedars (Lebanese) HAZ FC (Indian community) and Lechwe School.

Chiwaila said that proceeds from the tournament were handed over to the recipients on Thursday who include Copperbelt Footbal Amateur Association and Lechwe School who received training equipment for physical education.
