$97,000 MISSING – Tembo accused of stealing money meant for shipping manganese belonging to a Chinese Manganese Mine

A 44-YEAR OLD man of Lusaka has been sued in the Kabwe magistrate court for allegedly stealing over US$97,000 cash meant for shipping manganese belonging to a Chinese company, Young Drill Trading Company Limited and PNS Networks.
Musa Tembo, businessman of 137 Acacia Drive, Avondale is charged with one count of theft by agent contrary to 280 cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the case are that Tembo between May 10 and 20 being an agent for the Chinese firm and acting with another person allegedly stole US$97,500 which was entrusted to him for the shipment of manganese.
Tembo denied the charge and the prosecution suggested that the matter be adjourned to either August 7 or 8 for trial and to allow his counsel Diana Bunting of D-Bunting and Associates who was being represented by Godfrey Mataa from Keith Mweemba Advocates to be present.
But magistrate Sebastian Mwenya advised the State to suggest a reasonable date for commencement of trial because he was not convinced that Tembo’s lawyer would be occupied.
Magistrate Mwenya then told the State and defence that he would fix the date for trial because a month in between was unreasonable.
“It is not possible for the case to be pending for a month and I therefore set July 8 for mention and for fixing of a trial date,” said Mr Mwenya.
Tembo’s police bond was extended.
