SENSATIONAL Zanaco Football Club is still waiting for Kabwe Warriors to respond to them on its request to acquire defender Thandi Mwape, says club general manager Marlon Kananda.

Kananda said that his club had written to Warriors requesting for Mwape but the Kabwe-based team was yet to respond to their appeal.

He said that the despite the player having shown interest to join Zanaco, Mwape was still a Warriors player until the later officially responded positively for the bankers to sign on Mwape.

“We wrote to Warriors expressing our interest in the player but they’ve not responded to us,’’ he said.

“Yes, you can go to a player and he says yes I want to go to Zanaco because he has shown interest, but until Warriors officially writes to us, this thing will remain speculative,” said Kananda,

Kananda said he was equally   shocked that even the media were reporting that Mwape had already joined Zanaco.

“I’ll give a good example, Eden Hazard of Chelsea had always wanted to play for Real Madrid, but when the club offered to buy him and Chelsea had said he wasn’t for sale, there was nothing that was going to happen, he was going to remain at Chelsea,’’ said Kananda

Kananda urged fans and the media to be patient and wait whether Warriors would respond to their offer adding that for now the defender was still a Warriors player.

“So let’s wait until Warriors respond to us. I think the direction of whether Thandi is coming or not will be determined by Warriors ’’ he said

Mwape has been a revelation for Warriors in the just ended season in which he helped the club to a top four finish and saw him earn a COSAFA outing in Durban, South Africa.

The player was also instrumental in the Chipolopolo’s COSAFA winning team where he partnered with his brother Clement Mwape in defence and was another revelation for both his club Zesco United and the national team.

Meanwhile Kananda said that his club’s transfer target in the July transfer market was to bring 5 players from both the local and international market.
