ZAMBIAN Karateka Ian Shamabanse is confident of minting gold at next month’s Africa championship tournament to be held in Gaborone, Botswana on July 12.

Shamabanse who minted two bronze medals at the recently held regional tournament in Namibia said that he was confident that he would go a step further at the Botswana tournament by winning a gold medal.

The Zambia National Service martial arts athlete who came out third in the Namibian games said that the regional tourneys were memorable for him having won two bronze medals.

Shamabanse said he picked some lessons from the regional games which were to push more in training and working very hard to mint gold medals.

“The trip to Namibia was alright, because I came out with two bronze medals in the senior category and I’m praying to get something better in the next championship in Botswana,

“The lessons we learnt from that outing are what I need to push more in terms of training and that I should work hard to come back with a gold medal,” said Shamabanse.

Shamabanse hoped that his team would go with a bigger number to the African champions so as to give them higher chances of winning more medals.
