ZANACO FC are not disappointed with failing to achieve their target of first position in Stream A of the transitional league after finishing as runners-up, says club  general manager Marlon Kananda

Kananda said that Zanaco was not in any-way disappointed because it was a very tough season for all the clubs.

He told the Sun Sport that his Club that the short period in the transitional league was very difficult to cope with which made many teams in the league to struggle in their assignments.

He was happy the team finished in a respectable position by ending the league on second spot hence qualifying to the Confederations cup.

“We wanted to play continental competition, that we have achieved, and we shall now look forward to even doing better,’’ he said.

“I would not say we are disappointed, it is been a very tough transitional league so one should appreciate that we finished in a respectable position,

“We  are now going into the league in August that’s when real planning kicks in because the short period was very difficult and a lot of teams had to struggle,” said Kananda.

Kananda said that his team would be reinforcing its squad by adding on new defenders and a striker.

He said that the defence was the weakest link in the transitional seasonal and it was now just a matter of identifying which players were capable of playing at the highest level and fit into the team.

Kananda said that his club’s aim was to reach the group stage of the confederations cup having done so the last time it played in the competition in the 2016.

“Our aim now will be to reach the group stages again because of the changes that are happening at the football club, we aim to plan nicely and if we could reach the group stages that would be a welcome move,’’ he said.

Kananda described the just ended league as having being tough, exciting and challenging at the same time.

Zanaco finished second in the just ended transitional league season having beaten relegated Prison Leopards 2-1 on the last day of the league last Saturday with 30 points.
