THE National Women in Politics Platform (NWIP) is advocating increased involvement and inclusion of women in leadership structures and decision-making positions in their political parties.

NWIP chairperson Saboi Imboela said true democracy could not be achieved without gender equality.

Ms Imboela said through the platform and individually in their respective political parties, women tried to promote the values of peace, respect for human rights and the law.

“We encourage the women of Zambia to emulate various women leaders around the world to participate in the governance processes, including vying for political leadership and other positions to influence the direction of national development,” she said.

Ms Imboela thanked the Zambia National Women’s Lobby and DEMO-Finland for facilitating the activities of the National Women in Politics Platform both at district and national levels.

She said there was still a long way to go before Zambia could comfortably say that women were well represented in all leadership and decision-making positions at all levels.

And ZNWL executive director Juliet Chibuta said the platform would ensure that women spoke with the same voice so that the targets were achieved.

Ms Chibuta said women had the same challenges and it was, therefore, important for them to speak with a voice to be heard.

The platform consists of women holding key positions in active political parties in Zambia.
