WE are still in the race for the title until the last game of the season, says Nkana Coach Bestone Chambeshi.
This afternoon the 12- time Zambian league champions take on continental contenders Buildcon FC, who are also hoping a win could enhance their chances of topping the group and qualify to the CAF Champions league.
Chambeshi still believes his team has a chance of winning all their remaining games starting with this afternoon’s tie against Buildcon who they held to a one all draw in the first leg fixture played at Nkana Stadium last month.
Chambeshi told the Sun Sport after his team’s 3-2 victory over NAPSA Stars that his side was still in the race for the title despite being disadvantaged by the log standings after having gone for about five games without a win.
“We are in the race until the last game of the season that’s when we can say the league is over, but as at now all I can say is that we are looking forward to the last game of the season,” Chambeshi said
Chambeshi has however expressed concern over the growing number of injured players in his team this season which had affected the performance of the team.
“Injured players is our main worry, as a technical bench you know we have gone for almost 6 games without our regulars but I’m happy with those that have come in as replacement to help the team, they are doing fine,’’ he said.
A win against title contenders Buildcon could just give Nkana a slight hope after their six winless games in the last month which shattered their chances of returning to continental football next season.
Nkana were part of Zambia’s representatives in Continental competition this ending season having played in the Champions league before being relegated to the Confederations cup and eventually going as far as the quarter finals of the competition.
