THE Football Association of Zambia FAZ has set off under-17 national team trials to be held across the 10 provinces over the last seven days.

In a statement made available to the Sun by

FAZ spokesperson Mwazi Chanda said  ,the FAZ technical directorate had identified youth coaches across Zambia and provincial administrators to ensure that all the eligible candidates were given an opportunity to compete for possible places in the national team.

Candidates that will meet the grade at the regional trials will then converge in Lusaka at the FAZ Technical Centre for the final selection.

Prospective candidates are being run through a stringent age scrutiny exercise that included availing under-five cards or birth certificates.
The selectors have been tasked to ensure that they identify players of the right age as the final phase of the selection will culminate into the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) tests.

Chanda said that Candidates eligible for selection should have been born on or after January 1, 2003.

Other selection points in Lusaka included Kalingalinga, Independence Stadium, Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC), National Sports Development Centre, Chainda and Kaunda Square.

Meanwhile FAZ technical director Lyson Zulu said the exercise would help the Association have a traceable data base of youth talent.
He said that all the provinces had been covered with an open door policy applied to enhance transparency in the selection process.

Zambia will be competing in the 2019 COSAFA championship in September in Malawi.
