Chipata Moslems aid over 2,000 vulnerable households

THE Chipata Muslim Association says it is committed to supplementing government efforts in uplifting the livelihood of vulnerable households in the district.
Association Vice Chairperson, Abdul Ahmed said the institution was currently helping out over 2,000 households in need of assistance ranging from education, health and food.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS yesterday, Mr Ahmed said government alone could not do everything hence, the Muslim community in Chipata district decided to help other communities in need.
He said the association did not only help people in Chipata but also the needy in areas outside the district.
Mr Ahmed, who is the Head of Public Relations at the association, has commended the Muslim community in the district for their sacrifice and support to the vulnerable families.
He said the Muslim community in Chipata had been generous in carrying out charitable works following the teachings in the Quran of helping the needy despite having a limited resource base.
Mr Ahmed said the association had on average sunk 35 boreholes per year in communities where people had never had clean drinking water.
Meanwhile, Mr Ahmed has reminded the Muslim community to help the needy in society and forgive each other’s transgressions during the month Ramadan.
He said during the month of Ramadan, charity was very important because there were so many vulnerable people in society in need of help.
