THE early closure of Kaunda Square Clinic is unfair to the surrounding community which needs healthcare services during the night, Munali 2021 aspiring parliamentary candidate Chrisin Chiinda has said.

Mr Chiinda said the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities should intervene and ensure the facility is open for 24 hours.

He said the closure of the clinic during the night was denying the residents of Kaunda Square the right to access to medical care.

It was worrying that the only public clinic in the area closed in the evenings until the next morning.

Mr Chiinda said this when he featured on a programme dubbed ‘The Security’ on Revelations TV.

“I know Government can intervene, but my biggest appeal goes to the members of the community that let us join hands and build ourselves a clinic. This can be done if we all work together,” he said.

Mr Chiinda said members of the community, especially business people, could come up with ideas on how to build a clinic with the help of the government.

“We need to reduce depending on the government. Let us come together and see what we can do for our constituency. We can achieve a lot if we join hands and speak with one voice,” he said.

And Mr Chiinda says the disabled had been neglected for a long time and that there is need to pay more attention to their special needs.

He said there was need to recognise Munali Secondary School for Children with Special Needs as a centre of excellence.

“We need to recognise this school as a centre of excellence and ensure that the pupils receive equal support because they, too, can do anything an able-bodied person can do,” Mr Chiinda said.

He said the school had produced a number of prominent people.

“Whether disabled or not, we can all contribute to the development of this constituency and the nation at large,” Mr Chiinda said.

He appealed to members of the community to change their attitude towards disabled citizens.

Mr Chiinda, who is popularly known as Chris Mall, said if supported disabled children could contribute to the development of the community.

He also said Chainama Mental Hospital should be upgraded because of the increase in psychological problems.

Mr Chiinda cited economic stress, lack of employment and many related challenges have led to the abuse of alcohol and drugs, especially among the youth.

“I feel with the current happenings, Chainama needs a facelift to attend to such problems,” he said.

Mr Chiinda said he would soon be visiting all public institutions in the constituency and engage managements and lobby them for support.
