Kanyama residents demand good roads, drainages

SOME residents of Kanyama Township in Lusaka are concerned about the lack of proper drainage system and bad roads in the area.
One resident, Nancy Chisalu, said the area was in need of drainages because it was heavily flooded during the rainy season.
“We have been having this problem for a long time now. The local authority must take measures and build drainages here,” Ms Chisalu said.
“In these other communities they have built roads and drainages. Some roads even have pavers. We need good roads and drainages,” she said.
“We don’t have drainages where the rain water can go when it rains. Most of our yards are flooded and that’s why we are highly affected by the water borne diseases,” she said.
Mike Botha, also a resident and marketeer, said the problem required an urgent solution if Kanyama was to develop.
“It is important to have drainages in this area for the purposes of good sanitation. Some of the diseases can be avoided they building drainages,” Mr Botha said.
Another resident, Gibson Muyu, said the area needed good roads and street lighting for easy movement in the night.
