A QUARRELSOME couple have parted company after living together for 11 years.
Steven Chibuye, 33 of Garden Chilulu took his wife, Evelyn Banda, 27 of Chilulu at the Boma Local Court.
He accused her of being disrespectful and told the court she didn’t care about him.
Chibuye told senior local court magistrate Bertha Zulu that his wife was fond of coming home drunk.
“One time I came home and didn’t find her. I found she hadn’t done any chores and the house hadn’t been cleaned.
“She came home and just changed clothes and left. Another time she came home drunk. I was upset because she didn’t even cook for the kids. So I chased her from home, but she refused to go,” Chibuye said.
He said his wife also had the habit of getting his phone and they would fight over any phone number she found of a woman.
“We had been to court for reconciliation, but she rejected me before the court. We stayed on separation for eight months because she accused me of dating this woman who I even ended up proposing love to because of my wife’s accusations,” Chibuye said.
In her statement, Banda told the court they had lived in a happy marriage for a long time and that problems started when Chibuye was promoted at his work place.
“There was no peace in the house and he once left me to go and marry another woman. He rejected me and started staying with the other woman. My sister-in-law and I found him with that woman. He was even being rude to his own relatives,” Banda said.
She said any time she had a problem with him she would run to her in-laws who were always there for her and even advised her to sue Chibuye for marriage reconciliation.
“Unfortunately, reconciliation in court had failed,” Banda said.
He later apologised to me and told me the other woman had gone back to her husband and he had only married her because he had impregnated her. We got back together but still didn’t have peace,” Banda said.
“When his relatives visited, he would tell them that his girlfriend did house work better than me. He even told them to marry me if they wanted because he didn’t want me. Any small misunderstanding, he beats me badly. He even threw a brazier that had fire at me and burnt me. One time he beat me so bad and knocked out my teeth,” Banda said.
She said her husband would sometimes refuse to eat food she had prepared him and said as a boss he could not be eating just anything.
“He got the neighbour’s relish from the fridge and threw it at me.
One time he bought pork and ate it alone. He beat me and stripped me naked outside. I don’t even know the person that gave me a chitenge to cover myself and I reported him to the victim support unit,” Ms Banda said.
The court granted the couple divorce was granted and ordered Chibuye to compensate Banda with K12, 000.
