THE Chilenje Local Court has ordered a Lusaka man to stay away from his former lover after she successfully applied for a restraining order.

David Nkonde,47, of Chilenje township was sued by his former lover Lucy Chalungumana,46, a cleaner of the same area.

Chalungumana said they were not married but staying together and have three children from their relationship.
She said after they separated in 2015, she built a house at her parents’ place where she was living.

“One night, I was alone in the house when Nkonde came around and started insulting me. He was shouting and called me a prostitute,
“He continued following me at my house at awkward hours while drunk and threatening to kill me. One time he threatened to kill me with a screw driver” she said.

Chalungumana said that all she wanted was for Nkonde to stop coming to her house as she feared he would harm her.
“He has no respect and I don’t want him to come in my yard again. I want the court to give me a restraining order against him,
“From today, I don’t want him to follow me. He is very violent and I wouldn’t consider getting back with him,” she said.

She explained that the children were now between 15 and 29 years old and were free to visit him at his house anytime.
The two were appearing before Senior Presiding Local Court Magistrate Patrick Nyirenda.

In defence Nkonde admitted that the two had been living together but separated last year because of disputes.
“If she’s wants a restraining order how I am going to be seeing the children? What if the child falls sick how am I going to know,” Nkonde asked.

The court upheld Chalungumana’s application and ordered the Nkonde to stay away from her.
