A 29 YEAR old bricklayer of Kabwe has been sent to Mukobeko Correctional facility for 12 months by the Kabwe Magistrates Court for aggravated assault.

Vincent Haslam, of Chindwin compound was sent to prison by Principal Resident Magistrate Daniel Musonda after he admitted hitting his friend Chiko Nyirenda him with hummer on the head while asleep over missing money.

In mitigation, Haslam asked the court for leniency as he was married with three children and was looking after his grandmother.

Haslam further said that he was sorry for the crime he committed and would not repeat the same offence in future.

Mr Musonda said he had taken into consideration what Haslam had said in mitigation and that he was the first offender and was sorry for his actions.

He also took into consideration the circumstances of the crime in which Haslam hit Nyirenda with a hammer while asleep.

Mr Musonda however noted that the action by Hasalam was quite dangerous as the head was a delicate part of the body to be hit with a hammer, adding that  the situation was made worse  he hit the other man who was asleep.

Mr Musonda said the circumstances of the crime aggravated the case and pronounced a sentence of 12 months imprisonment with hard labour.
