THE partial closure of Arcades roundabout tomorrow for the erection of a flyover bridge has been received with mixed feelings by Lusaka residents and motorists.

Although some were against the idea, many have welcomed the move saying that it would help decongest the road and reduce accidents.

Arcades roundabout will be partially closed for 9 months from Monday April 8 2019 to January 31, 2020 to facilitate for construction of a fly over bridge and widening of Great East Road under the Lusaka decongesting project by Afcons Infrastructure Limited, a contractor engaged by the ministry of local government.

Mr Emmanuel Kambikambi said that the move was good and should be commended by all well-meaning citizens.

He said that the fly over bridge and widening of the Great East Road would help in the flow of traffic and lessen accidents that occurred when people were in a hurry to get to their respective destinations on time.

He said that the project may seem like a ‘disturbance’ at the moment but it would yield better results that would benefit everyone.

“People may be angry at the moment but they will appreciate in future and they will realise that no time has been wasted on the project,

“ The only thing that we have to do now is support government by respecting the rules that will be lined ahead and avoid vandalism while the project is on,” he said.

Mr. Kambikambi further said that the fly over bridge would modernise and beautify the city, a situation he described as exciting.

Another motorist, Joseph Mwila said that the project was a good one despite relevant authorities not consulting members of the public.

Mr. Mwila wondered how motorists would be managing to beat traffic, stressing that most alternative roads were already congested and the situation would worsen when the roundabout was closed.

He however hoped that the project would not take more than nine months to be completed.
