A Senior citizen in Siavonga has urged Zambians to embrace their historical background and take the center stage in telling the country’s story in order to promote tourism.

Mr. Geofrey Hamateyo, of Nabutezhi village, said it is high time Zambians embraced and viewed tourism with an open mind because every place in Zambia is unique with an ancient story to be told, yet so much has not been told.

Mr. Hamateyo noted that all foreign countries have told amazing stories about their history in different ways such as folktales, dance and song.

He called for preservation of all tourist attractions if the country was fully develop its tourism potential.

The senior citizen urged Zambians to emulate countries like China and Egypt which has for many years preserved their tourists’ sites, the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian Pyramids respectively.

He further appealed to Government to help develop the film industry saying the country can be able tell its stories through film to the outside world and the process attract more tourists.

Mr. Hamateyo has since encouraged Zambians to identify unique things about their places and narrate the stories about them in order to earn a living.
